Look Book

Look Book: Gaming Space

I want my look books to include more than just outfits for comfort or based on characters, but spaces and cosplay too. So today I'm gonna share my game station wishlist. Which may or may not appeal to you haha. Gotta have comfort and style when playing games no? 😊

As you can tell I very much like bright colours mixed with neutrals. Yellow is my favourite colour (along with green) and it just makes a space seem happy.

This is basically my ACTUAL shopping list for my livingroom upgrade so look at all the pretties haha. I like having lots of storage for consoles and games hence the big old shelving unit. We own rather a few consoles strangely enough. The rest is just to game comfortably I guess! What touches do you have to your gaming space? Let me seeeee.

Wee Goals

Wee Goals for April

I thought a small monthly goal post might be a good idea. Will I manage them? God knows. But I'll be trying to! It wont be a ridiculous amount but each month I'll decide on a wee list and then the following month I'll see what I've managed to accomplish and set that months goals.

- Find my blogging groove and finalise a consistent schedule.

- Read my TBR books; Wintersong, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Rebel of the Sands.

- Talk more on bookstagram/twitter. Try and figure out how to use both socially.

- Get the xbox fixed. Finally. Seriously.

- Buy a few art supplies and get papercutting again!

- More outside days, even when the weather is shite. More random adventures and find free activities that are fun for all of us.

Fingers crossed I can accomplish these all! What are your wee goals for this month?

Look Book

Look Book: Cosy Gamer Girl

I figured I'd go less specific for this look book. This one I decided to go for a gamer outfit. For days when I'm infront of my tv with the xbone on. Playing Skyrim or Gears. Naturally. Gotta be comfy when you do this shite!

For this one I even included a blanket (cos I mean ... it's awesome) and a pillow. Comfort people. COMFORT! I really need that mug too ... cos Levy ...

Lazy Gamer Girl

Lazy Gamer Girl by katelyn-jade

I mean honestly when it comes to gaming go with what suits you best. I have rheumtoid arthritis so I go for cosy blankets and big jumpers and socks/slippers because otherwise my joints lock up. What suits me may well not suit you! But I hope you like some of what I like 😄

Book Talk

Book Talk: Cinder

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Dystopia, Fairy Tale
Pages: 400
Source: Purchased
Purchase from: Book Depository / Wordery

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She' a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her sisters illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she suddenly finds herself at the centre of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world's future.

"Even in the Future the Story Begins with Once Upon a Time."

I ADORED this book. A futuristic retelling of the popular Cinderella tale this book is a firm favourite of mine. Meyer creates a world both futuristic and relatable that you can easily immerse yourself in and imagine. Creating a societal divide in the creation of Cyborgs was brilliant. Throughout history humans have created strife with those considered "other" and by creating that same divide here Meyer makes this tale utterly believable. You can see a world that's improved technologically speaking but still has it's grime. It's bias. It's issues.

"Do your kind even know what love is? Can you feel anything at all, or is it just ... programmed?"

Though I'm not usually one for love stories, this isn't a traditional sort of love story. It's slow burning with so many ups and downs with no assurances on a happily ever after. The characters of this world are diverse and multifaceted. Fabulous in a series spanning many books. To have a diverse range of men and women as well as creating real feelings of friendship and love between them is without a doubt the mark of a good writer. These aren't quick fit relationships that leave you pondering how they like each other. These are people who feel REAL. There is a character anyone can relate to. Loveable rogue? Anxious but brilliant? You will find someone you connect to no matter who you are. Personally my favourite character is Iko. A robot. Don't judge me till you've read it darn you!

"Prince Kai! Check my fan, I think I'm overheating!"

There's a stream of sarcastic wit throughout, especially from Kai, that had me giggling (ok occasionally snorting) constantly. I am a BIG fan of books that make me laugh. A book should make you want to sob, to laugh, to worry and to cheer. This is the type of book that has you rooting for the underdog and hopeful for the future. The scope of the world is fairly large but focused perfectly on our main characters. You hear hints of the rest of the world, and inklings of the scenes to come, but not in a way that overshadows where you are currently. It's just SO well done.

"Let me just go dig out my special Lunar detector, and I'll get right on that"

Ending in a cliffhanger, it doesn't feel wrong. You want to read the next chapter in the series when this one ends. I immediately ordered and devoured the rest of the series after reading this one! I could not wait. I am a fan of fairy tale retellings, which makes me somewhat biased, but this is one of the best retellings I have ever seen. My favourite book in the series is actually the next one, which I will be reviewing shortly!

Picking Up

Picking Up: Daughter of Smoke and Bone

I've heard alot about Laini's style of writing having an almost lyrical, musical sense to them that brings you into her story. It's such a hugely raved about book that I am a little cautious that it won't be as good as hyped but fingers crossed it will be!

I've heard a few different comparisons but on reading the blurb it doesn't seem that accurate. It reads like an unusual fantasy and a girl who's hair grows blue has gotta be interesting! I have to admit I'm lukewarm on excitement on reading this but the Czech setting intrigues me alot as does the idea of ashy handprints being left on doors.

I'm going to be conservative in my hopes for this one and trust in the taste of my fellow bookstagrammers that it will be amazing. Definitely a read to try and do one night with candles and a bath I think. Fingers crossed I love it as much as others seem to!

Five Fandom Friday

Five Fandom Friday: Fictional BFFs

Another fandom Friday, another list of five. This time who I would love to be best friends with. This was, to be honest, a really easy one! I didn't struggle to pick out my "BFFs" at all. 4 of the five seem to be trouble makers ... I wonder what that means about me haha.

1 - Tessa Gray

An avid book reader who manages to nab two hotties? AND has cool powers? Definitely one for the list!

2 - Skulduggery Pleasant

Smart ass, sarcastic skeleton with magic powers, a dark past, and endless suave. If he were real (ahem and NOT a skeleton) I would totally date him.

3 - Mor

Have you read ACOMAF? I ADORE the Inner Circle and I think Mor would be an amazing friend. The type to build you up, whoever you choose to be, and tear down your enemies, no matter who they are.

4 - Magnus Bane

How could he NOT be on this list? He's hot, he's old, he's glittery ... Damn you Alexander!! He is definitely better than Gandalf.

5 - Nico

Ok so he's a little dark. A little gloomy. But what do you expect from the son of Hades? He's adorable and I loved him in HoA. Such a cutie!

Who would you befriend? Be honest now 😛

The Gamer Tag

The Gamer Tag

Today I'm taking part in the gamer tag set up by ZombieGoddessBeauty which has been doing the rounds in the geek blogger community. I love gaming so this is a fun one for me to complete and hey you get to learn my gaming loves. Win win!

What is your gamer tag?
Arabella Tome, Arabella_Tome or something pretty much always like that. It's the handle I game under everywhere (also my instagram and twitter handles *hint hint*)

PC or Console?
A decade ago I would have said PC but I'm very much a console girl these days. It's more casual and I can put it down easier.

Console of choice?
Always my xbone. When it's not broken 😭

Handheld of choice?
I still have my original yellow gameboy colour I will have you know. With pokemon yellow. Oh yes. Aren't you jealous?

Keyboard or Gamepad?
As I'm an xbone girl it's a gamepad but I can WASD with the best of them still! I'm actually contemplating customising our gamepads. If I do I'll post it on here if you like?

Singleplayer or Multiplayer?
Honestly it depends. I LOVE playing Gears horde with friends or 2-player games with my Mr Man. Then there are times I just want to sink into my head and game solo. I'd say it's 50/50?

What was the first game you ever played?
Erm like ever ever? Cos technically we're talking nokias snake or the original gameboys tetris ... I swear to god I am not old!

Hardest game you ever played?
Amnesia. I managed like ... 5 minutes. Will never complete. Or even put on again. I'm a scaredy cat and no ashamed to admit it. You cannot shame me!!

What was your first ever gaming system?
Ma original gameboy. My baby bro still has it I think. That things a brick! But it's history.

What is your favourite game of all time?
Ooo well, pokemon yellow probably tbh! Even now if I'm ill or having a bad mental health day I'll haul it out and play for a bit. You can't beat a good classic.

What game is currently your favourite?
Gears 4. I may be a tiiiiny bit obsessed with it's horde levels. I snipe all the things. HEADSHOTS BABY!

Favourite video game genre?
I'm a shoot-em-up kinda gal what can I say? I like to kill em dead. It's my stress reliever!

Favourite video game character?
THE COLE TRAIN baby!!! I'm not sorry. He's my game husband. Deal with it 😋

Which video game character do you hate most?
I ... don't know. I literally have no clue ... omg ... I must hate at least one of them ...

What new game are you excited for?
Mass Effect Andromeda. Nay danger. It looks SO damn good. I'm actually not that big a fan of the ME games but this one I am dying to get my hands on. So prettty.

Favourite video game company/developer?
Bethesda. I said it. I don't care if it's typical. It's true.

What gaming systems do you currently have?
Xbone, Xbox 360, Wii U, Gamecube and my original Gameboy Colour ... little #1 did used to have a 2DS. Till he washed it ... UNDER A TAP. Bless him but no. It'll be replaced for his birthday though. I would LOVE a 3DS and the Nintendo Switch as well.

How long have you been gaming?
Well if you include when I got my very first gameboy ... god ... 15 years. I am not old. NOT OLD.

How long was your longest game session?
Ooo this would be back when I PC gamed. Probably 5/6 hours. I couldn't do that these days. It's part of why I prefer console gaming. I get less addicted.

What game have you clocked the most time on?
Ah. Well. Ok. Admittedly ... yes it was WoW. I was hooked on WoW. We don't talk about that time. No no we don't. I had all the expansions up until the pandas and goblins and garrisons. It's way to addictive to be healthy.

If you want to join in on the gamer tag just copy the questions and get answering! And let me know so that I can come be nosey!
